The famous mid-size sedan receives a mid-year update and now 2017.5 Mazda 6 with much more standard features for the same money. We didn’t use to see these mid-year updates from Mazda. This excellent family car is in production for more than 15 years. We saw two redesigns and several more updates so far.
The current third-generation model is present since 2012 and we have seen few updates already. This time, we will see a mid-year update. The base design and styling will remain the same, but there is a huge boost when it comes to equipment. The 2017.5 Mazda 6 will continue with the same three trim levels in the offer. Those are Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring versions and each of them comes with plenty of new standard features.
2017.5 Mazda 6 Sport features
The 2017.5 Mazda 6 Sport is the base model of this excellent mid-size family car. After this update, it will come with even more equipment. Some of the notable features that were standard before the update are things like 17-inch alloy wheels and keyless entry. This update brings new standard features such as blind spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, among others.
2017.5 Mazda 6 Touring
The Touring is a mid-range version of the car. This model already featured plenty of equipment, but now gets things like navigation with a 7.0-inch touchscreen and heated front seats. There are also Bose premium audio system and a moonroof available. Besides these new features, there is also an “old” list of notable equipment, which includes many things. Some of them are leather upholstery and an eight-way power driver’s seat. There are also things like 9-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, low-speed automatic emergency braking, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers and many others.
2017.5 Mazda 6 Grand Touring
Finally, there is a top-level 2017.5 Mazda 6 Grand Touring model. It comes with a full load of premium features. For example, there are things like a head-up display, LED grille lighting, a six-way power passenger seat, driver’s seat memory, paddle shifters etc. It also comes with a whole bunch of active safety systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist high beam assist and automatic emergency braking that works at highway speeds. Those are all standard features, but there is also a GT optional package, which includes features like regenerative braking, heated outboard rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and Nappa leather upholstery.
2017.5 Mazda 6 engines
When it comes to powertrain, 2017.5 Mazda 6 continues without changes. A 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque is the only available unit in North America. This engine comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the automatic transmission is optional. With this amount of power, it needs around 7.3 seconds to reach 60 mph, while top speed goes around 135 miles per hour. When it comes to fuel economy, this sedan returns around 26 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on a highway. In other parts of the world, there are two additional engines in the offer.
There is a smaller 2.0-liter gasoline engine with around 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. This engine is reserved for standard models in most of the markets. Finally, there is also a familiar 2.2-liter diesel engine, which delivers around 175 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.

The greatest thing about this update is that the price remains unchanged. So, 2017.5 Mazda 6 comes with upgraded standard features for the same money. In North America, base models go around 22.800 dollars. If you want an automatic gearbox, it will cost you additional 1000 dollars. A mid-range Touring model costs around 25.000, while the Grand Touring goes around 31.000 dollars. When it comes to the competition, there are many cars on the market, but key players are models like Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Sonata etc.
