With the newest updates, the Japanese version of the iconic car is about to be fresh enough until the redesign. Pretty much all generation of the Corollas for domestic market were different compared to international models. The current generation is not an exception. So far, we have seen eleven generations of the legendary compact car in Japan.

The current version came in 2012. The first update was in 2015 and it included various changes. The second one was done for this year model. The 2018 Toyota Corolla Axio Hybrid comes with various improvements.

First of all, it features some nice visual improvements. We are about to see a new front end, which looks more attractive. The 2018 Corolla Axio Hybrid comes with the new front end, which now looks more like the international version. There’s a new grille, as well as new bumper, headlights etc. The rear end also comes with some new visual details.

Despite numerous changes in terms of styling and equipment, the 2018 Toyota Corolla Axio Hybrid remains pretty much the same in terms of mechanics. So, there is a familiar hybrid system under to hood of this compact sedan. It is a system similar to one that we can find in Prius c.

This means it features a 1.5-liter engine and outputs around 75 horsepower and 82 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers don’t promise some great performances for sure. However, fuel economy is on a very high level. In a combined ride, this model usually returns around 76 miles per gallon, which equal to 3 liters per 100 km. Pretty amazing for sure.

Besides hybrid powertrain, this sedan is available with several gasoline engines. So, if you don’t need such good fuel economy and want a more approachable price, you can consider one of them. All units are kept below two liters, in order to meet Japanese emission standard and avoid expensive taxes.

One of these engines is a familiar 1.8-liter unit, which can be found pretty in pretty much all Corollas around the world. It is good for about 138 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. There are also less known units with displacements of 1.3 and 1.5 liters. These units deliver 95 and 110 horses, respectively. Pretty much all engines come with CVT gearbox, but 1.5-liter engine could come with a manual transmission as well.

The 2018 Toyota Corolla Axio Hybrid already came to market. Besides Japan, it is available in several other Asian countries. Those are Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, New Zealand etc. In most of these markets, the base price goes around 23.000 dollars. For example, Japanese version starts at 22.700 dollars.
