The 2018 Toyota Sienna is coming to the U.S. market. Although the company announced that there is new Sienna to come, this actually isn’t a completely new model. Many of us agreed that this minivan needs a complete overhaul. However, it didn’t happen. The “new” model continues to be the third generation.
To remind you, the original version of the famous minivan came 20 years ago. So far, we have seen three generation of it. The current model is present since 2010 and pretty much everyone expected to see a completely new model ready for the next year. However, the company decided to extend the production of current model, so there is another refresh. This update brings various new things. There is a new styling, but also several new features inside. Powertrain is the same, but there are rumors about new hybrid powertrain.
2018 Toyota Sienna exterior changes
As we already mentioned, the company gave us a mild facelift although most of us expected a complete redesign. The base design remains the same. The 2018 Toyota Sienna continues to ride on a same K platform, which is in use for various kinds of vehicles, from sedans to crossovers. For this update, the minivan that actually came in 2010 now comes with nice changes at the front. There is a completely new front end that includes new grille, new headlights and new bumper. Also, there are new side skirts, as well as new wheels design. Finally, the company will offer few completely new color options.
Interior design also includes some nice novelties. For example, there is a new instrument table that combines digital and analog elements. There are also new color schemes, better noise reduction, as well as a whole bunch of new standard features.
2018 Toyota Sienna features
The 2018 Toyota Sienna comes with many new standard features. There are novelties in various aspects, but the main thing is about new standard safety features. The new model features Safety Sense package in all variants. This package includes various systems, such as automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a lane-departure warning system that can automatically steer the van back into its lane, and automatic high-beam headlights. Also, the 2018 Sienna comes with new infotainment system that also includes an updated navigation. Rest of equipment organization will remain pretty much the same. The new 2018 Toyota Sienna will come in four trim levels – L, LE, SE and XLE.
2018 Toyota Sienna engine
The 2018 Toyota Sienna comes without changes under the hood. There is a familiar 3.5-liter V6 engine, which is good for almost 300 horses and comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission. As you probably know, this engine was revisited last year, when it gained more than 30 hp, so there was no need for some further improvements at the moment. Besides great amount of power, this engine is also very efficient and feature pretty good fuel economy, which goes around 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on a highway.
Besides this gasoline unit, there are also reports that the hybrid version could come somewhere next year. We don’t the exact details about new powertrain, but it could be a similar system to one that we can find in Camry Hybrid. This model combines an electric motor with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine and delivers around 200 horses combined.
2018 Toyota Sienna price and competition
The 2018 Toyota Sienna will keep pretty much the same price, which starts around 30.000, while best-equipped models can go up to 50.000 dollars. When it comes to the competition, the main rival will be Honda Odyssey. However, there are several other models in class, such as Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Grand Caravan and Kia Sedona.
