One of the most iconic luxury crossovers will finally get its three-row version, which will come as 2019 Lexus RX L. This legendary model has been present for a long time and it is considered as one of the first luxury crossovers that ever came. It has been also a crucial model for the Toyota’s luxury brand for a while. Just in last month, the third of all Lexus vehicles sold was the RX.

With the long-awaited three-row version, we can expect even more impressive results. According to some expert predictions, the new model could even outstrip the current two-row version. For this occasion, Toyota made few modifications. The new 2019 RX L features a longer wheelbase and also some tweaks at the rear end, in order to provide enough space for back passengers. It had the premiere at the LA Auto Show and should hit the market next year.

Many Lexus lovers are delighted to finally see the third row in this amazing crossover. Pretty much all rivals already have three-row versions of their models. So, it is no wonder that many traditional Lexus customers turned to models like Audi Q7, Infiniti QX60 etc.  So, Toyota finally makes up this flaw. The new 2019 Lexus RX L features a longer wheelbase for about 4.3 inches, in order to provide enough space for the third row. Passengers on the back definitely will not lack in terms of headroom, since the new version features a steeper tailgate design, which will also provide more cargo space. Rest of the car will remain pretty much the same. The current generation of this crossover came two years ago, so the company isn’t likely to make bigger modifications at the moment. New details should come in next few years, along with the update of a two-row model.

As we already mentioned, the 2019 Lexus RX L’s main difference compared to the base model is an additional row of seats. The new model comes with a longer wheelbase that provides enough legroom for all passengers. In all other aspects, the new version keeps pretty much the same characteristics. For example, dashboard layout should be completely the same.

The new three-row version will be available in three variants. The base version will have a capacity of seven passengers and split-fold third-row of seats. A more luxurious version with a capacity of six passengers will be in the offer as well. In this case, the second row of seats features pair captain’s chairs, which provides a significant improvement in terms of comfort, as well as easier access to the third row of seats.

Already the base two-row version offers an amazing list of standard features. On the other side, the new 2019 Lexus RX L will add few new things to the list. So, the base three-row version will come with standard features like leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, power-folding third-row seats, a power tailgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry/start, a rearview camera, and LED headlights. Base models also come with a Lexus’s familiar Safety System+ package, which includes various advanced safety systems. There are things like lane keep assist with steering assist, automatic high-beams, adaptive cruise control, and the Pre-Collision System with pedestrian detection.

Finally, there is a whole bunch of standalone optional features, such as a larger 12.3 screen, premium Mark Levinson audio system, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 360-degree camera system and many other things.

The new 2019 Lexus RX L will come with the same powertrain choice as two-row seat models. The base version will feature a familiar 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine, which is good for 290 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque.

There is also a familiar hybrid version, which combines gasoline and electric sources of power and delivers a total output of 308 horses. Although the company didn’t announce anything about fuel economy, we could expect a slightly lower numbers, since the new version is a little bit heavier. The current hybrid model returns around 31 mph in the city, 28 on a highway and 30 combined.

When it comes to the transmission, gasoline models come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. A hybrid model is paired with a CVT.

Besides V6 and hybrid models, the 2019 Lexus RX L could also get a turbo inline-four. Those who live outside North America are probably already familiar with this engine.

The base two-row RX is available with 3.5-liter V6 and hybrid variants in the U.S. market. On the other side, a smaller 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit can be found in some other parts of the world.

Latest reports suggest that this version could finally come to North America, as RX 300 and RX 300 L. It is good for about 235 horsepower and it also comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

With the new three-row version, this crossover will definitely become more competitive. Although the current model is a really great crossover, the lack of the third row is definitely a flaw. Pretty much all other mid-size crossovers and SUVs have their extended version. The new 2019 Lexus RX L will definitely make RX family significantly more competitive.

At the moment, there are many three-row crossovers on the market. Some of the key players are models like Audi Q7, BMW X5, Infiniti QX60, Acura MDX, Lincoln MKT and many others.

2019 Lexus RX L release date and price

Although we still don’t know the exact launch date, it is pretty much for sure that the new 2019 Lexus RX L will come quite soon, in early 2018. On the other side, the company already announced the price of the new model.

The base 2019 Lexus RX350 L will go around 48.700 dollars. This is for about 4.500 more compared to the base two-row version. Models with hybrid powertrain will be available at 50.000 dollars. On the other side, the price of the possible four-cylinder version is still unknown.
