Although introduced just two years ago, the brand’s bestseller will get an update for the 2019 Lexus RX. To remind you, the famous crossover is Lexus’s best-selling model. It is also considered to be one of the first luxury crossovers in the car industry.
The original version came in 1997. During these more than two decades, we have seen four generations of it. The current model is present since 2016 and it looks like it is time for first updates. According to latest reports, the company prepares to introduce a three-row version, which will come as RX-L. For this occasion, we will not see just longer wheelbase, but also some tweaks at the rear end.
In order to harmonize two models, base RX will also get those visual novelties. However, this won’t be the only change for the 2019 RX. Some reports suggest new engine option as well.
2019 Lexus RX changes
The first update of the current-generation RX will bring some nice changes. Although it will keep base design characteristics, the 2019 Lexus RX will come with some new visual details. Usually, this won’t sound surprising, but the thing is that this model came just two years ago. This is usually such a short period for visual changes. However, the reason is obvious. The company is going to introduce a new three-row version. In order to provide more space for rear passengers, some modification at the rear end were required. This won’t include just changes in shape, but also things like new taillights shape and similar things. So, in order to harmonize RX’s offer, base two-row models will receive these novelties as well. Rest of the crossover will probably remain the same in terms of styling. On the other side, we are about to see a new engine in the offer.
2019 Lexus RX engine
Most likely, the 2019 Lexus RX will come with a new powertrain choice. At the moment, there are two versions of this excellent crossover. Base models feature a familiar 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine, which delivers around 295 horsepower and comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
There is also a hybrid version as well. This model features a total output of 310 horsepower. Latest reports suggest that the company prepares to introduce another version. This variant will probably come with a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four. This is basically the same engine that powers NX crossover. It delivers around 235 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Furthermore, it also comes in a pair with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The company expects that the new version will attract more customers, due to its lower price and better fuel economy.
2019 Lexus RX equipment
When it comes to trim levels things will remain the same. However, this update will probably bring some improvements in terms of new standard features for each of two versions. The current base model already comes with a long list of standard features. There are things like 18-wheels, a power liftgate, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, simulated-leather upholstery, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, 8-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration etc. There are also various safety features like lane departure warning and intervention and forward collision warning and mitigation with automatic emergency braking.
The F Sport trim comes not only with more equipment but also with a more attractive exterior and interior design. Some of the highlights are 20-inch wheels, adaptive suspension dampers, enhanced engine sound, transmission paddle shifters, unique gauges, heated and ventilated sport seats, leather upholstery and unique interior trim.
2019 Lexus RX release date and price
The 2019 Lexus RX will come in the second half of year, but more precise launch date is yet to be announced. Despite all these changes, we don’t expect to see bigger changes in price. So, base models should go around 44.000 dollars. Competition is tough. There are models like Mercedes GLE, Acura MDX, Volvo XC90 and many others.
