2019 Mazda 5 – New Generation Compact Minivan

Mazda 5 is one of the prettiest minivans you will find on the market. This model is one of the most recognizable MPVs out there, and the carmaker is about to make it even better. The 2019 Mazda 5 heads into a new generation. We can call it different since the history of this model is not so simple to explain. The roots could be found in Mazda MPV from 1988. Some traces are the same as on the Premacy minivan. Finally, soon we will see the new CX-9, which is more a station wagon, or minivan, than the crossover.

However, the 2019 Mazda 5 will continue to impress. The new generation will just improve everything we knew about the minivan. Compared to crossovers, the MPV will offer more space for passengers. It is also safer than the sedan or station wagons. On the other hand, we must wait to see if the new Mazda 5 MPV comes with a hybrid engine. Minivan market is moving in this direction. Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Sienna, and Honda Odyssey are all preparing electrified version for upcoming seasons.

Mazda 5 Minivan Fuel Economy

The power is distributed to front wheels. No all-wheel-drive option is available for 2019 Mazda 5. With it, the MPV would add more balance, but it will lose on fuel economy. Currently, we expect the minivan to consume 23/30 mpg in city/highway drive. It is more than the competition, which is around 24 mpg combined for Dodge Grand Caravan and Kia Sedona.

  1. This article doesn’t answer the main question! IS THIS MINIVAN COMING BACK TO THE USA? There are a lot of us that don’t want an SUV or Minivan that really isn’t a Minivan.

    1. And yet there are plenty of us who do want it.

  2. Is this for the US or Canada? Can you update this article?

    1. Neither, the Mazda is not selling MPV on the North America market.

  3. Why do you keep teasing us by showing the Mazda 5 Minivan and then telling us we can’t get one. I’d like to buy a “REAL MINIVAN” not these full size vans they’re calling mini. I just heard Chrysler is cutting back on production of their Pacifica Minivan. When they came out in the early 1980’s with REAL MINIVANS they were a big hit. I owned a 1987. What a nice size car, small on the outside but plenty of room inside! Easy to park and didn’t take up the whole garage. The sliding door was so handy.
