The 2019 Mazda 6 Turbo comes with the same design as the sedan version for 2018. Mazda6 finally got a turbocharged engine, and that’s what definitely marked the 2018 model. This famous sedan is well-known for its amazing design and quality. Many car experts consider it as one of the best mid-size cars around. For Mazda, this is not satisfying. Latest reports suggest that the Japanese manufacturer is going to make a step forward and finally put itself in the segment of premium cars.
We have already seen a preview of the next generation Mazda cars, with the recent Vision Concept. However, the new generation will come in about two years. Until then, we will not see another big update of the current model. The company will not offer a model with the new exterior design, which will include brand’s latest design philosophy for 2019 version. However, we are about to see a more luxurious interior, with some premium materials in the new generation of Mazda 6. That’s not all. We are about to see even some novelties under the hood, which include the new HCCI engine.
The company decided to make some big changes to the exterior design of the current model. To remind you, this sedan is present since 2012. However, the company already did one facelift two years ago. So, we can clearly say that this 2019 Mazda 6 Turbo looks very fresh. The new update will even improve its styling. Various changes are included in this exterior redesign. First of all, there is a new front end.
The Mazda 6 will feature the brand’s latest design language. This practically means the same thing that we saw with the new version of the CX-5 crossover. So, there is a new grille design, as well as new headlights. Some other areas of the cars also suffer modifications, but this is the core of the sedan’s new styling. Mazda didn’t stop on the exterior. There are also some significant changes inside the car.
As we already mentioned, the Japanese carmaker is about to enter the segment of premium cars. The next generation of the famous sedan will compete with German premium brands, as well as Japanese and North American luxury cars. One of the most important aspects of every luxury car is its interior design. So, we can consider that 2019 Mazda 6 Turbo will be some kind of overture for the next-generation model.
For this occasion, we are about to see various changes inside. Although the base cabin design will remain the same, we will see many modifications, especially on the dashboard. For example, there is a real premium combination of Nappa leather and Japanese Sen Wood trim gives an additional dose of premium feel and exclusivity. Of course, we expect to see a much longer list of standard features, but exact details are still unknown.
2019 Mazda 6 Turbo Engine Specs:
Another big novelty for the 2019 Mazda 6 will be a new engine option in North America. So far, buyers from this part of the world have just one engine option in the offer. It is an atmospheric 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G turbo inline-four gasoline engine.
This is the same engine which gives the power to the Mazda CX-9 SUV. Just to remind you CX-9 powered with the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine has a power of 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. However, with this turbo engine, 2019 Mazda 6 has a power of 350 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with the 6-speed automatic transmission. When it comes to the fuel economy we are expecting 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.
When it comes to the turbo engines did you know that Mazda is producing turbo-diesel engines for quite some time now?
The 2019 Mazda 6 turbo-diesel is offered in the Europe, Australia and New Zealand. However, this 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D turbocharged diesel engine has only 173 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It also comes paired with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The company solved those problems from several years ago and this is now a highly reliable unit. Interesting fact about this engine is that it has been used in some racing competitions.
This turbodiesel engine isn’t available in the U.S.
2019 Mazda 6 With Normally Aspirated Engine:
Beside turbo engine, the 2019 Mazda 6 will continue to offer 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G inline-4 petrol engine. This engine comes paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission and provides 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. The fuel economy depends on transmission. So 2019 Mazda 6 with the 6-speed manual has 24 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The model with the 6-speed automatic has 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. And for the end, the Grand Touring model with the i-Eloop system has a fuel economy of 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. More about the i-Eloop system you can read in this article.
