As usual, this year’s Geneva Motor Show brings many novelties and one of them is the update for the 2019 Toyota Aygo. The tiny city car has been around for more than a decade.
The current model is present for about four years, which is a quite long period for such small vehicle. So, it was just a matter of time when Toyota will introduce some changes. Since this model is primarily designed for European market, Geneva seems pretty natural. So, what are the novelties for this model?
According to the latest information provided by the company itself, this will be a classic facelift, which will also include some changes in terms of new equipment. First of all, the 2019 Aygo will get a new look. We will see changes on both ends, as well from the side. On the other side, we don’t expect changes under the hood.
2019 Toyota Aygo facelift
This is a classic mid-cycle update, which is mostly about visual changes. So, what are the novelties for the 2019 Toyota Aygo? Just like with every facelift, a big majority of changes will come at the front end. The new model will come with a completely new front fascia, as well as reshaped headlights. Instead of the model’s recognizable X-shape look, we should see a new three-dimensional look, which characterizes Toyota’s new design language. Besides significant changes at the front, we are about to see modification in other areas as well. When it comes to the rear end, there is a new taillights design, but we could see some additional tweaks as well. From the side, Toyota prepares a new wheels design, while the offer of the exterior will be extended with few new finishes. Those are Blue and Magenta. On the other side, details about interior are still unknown.
2019 Toyota Aygo other changes
As we already mentioned, it is still unknown how the new interior will look like. The company announced that there are some tweaks on the instrument cluster and dashboard to come, but didn’t provide any picture. Additionally, we are expecting new color schemes to come – Quartz Grey and Piano Black. Besides these aesthetic novelties, new 2019 Toyota Aygo should also come with more standard equipment.
There are three trim levels in the offer – Aygo x, x-play, and x-clusiv. All three should receive some new standard features, but more precise details are yet to come. Some advanced safety systems from the company’s famous Sense package could be included as well. Additionally, there are two special editions to come, x-cite and x-trend. Both will feature not only exclusive standard features but unique styling details as well.
2019 Toyota Aygo engines
This update definitely won’t include powertrain changes. This small city car comes with a familiar three-cylinder unit from Toyota. It has a displacement of 1.0 liters, while max output goes around 70 horses and 68 pound-feet of torque. This amount of power won’t give you fast acceleration for sure. For example, 0-60 time is around 14 seconds, while top speed doesn’t go over 100 miles per hour. Still, consider that this model offers an astonishing fuel economy, which easily goes over 60 miles per gallon in a combined drive. In some developing countries, there is an older-generation 1.2-liter engine in the offer as well.
2019 Toyota Aygo price
Despite all these changes, we don’t expect bigger changes in terms of price. The current base model goes around 12.000 dollars. This segment is pretty competitive, so rivals are numerous. Some of the most notable models are VW Up! and Hyundai i10, as well as related Peugeot 108 and Citroen C1.
