2019 Toyota Highlander Release Date, Redesign

Toyota makes a number of SUVs aimed at different types of buyers and the new 2019 Toyota Highlander deserves a special mention in the lineup. This three-row crossover SUV is one of the top sellers from its stable as well.

It sits above the compact RAV4 and below the larger Sequoia. For 2019, it receives minor changes. Upon release, the SUV will battle it out with rivals like Volkswagen Atlas and Honda Pilot.

2019 Toyota Highlander – More Aggressively Styled Headlamps

In terms of exterior styling, the upcoming Toyota Highlander does not look much different from the existing model. The front side styling is somewhat inspired by the new Lexus lineup- as it seems. It is sold in several trims like LE, LE Plus, Limited, SE, XLE, and Limited Platinum. Most of the trims also come in hybrid versions.

On second look, you may find the grille and headlamps a little changed and more aggressively styled. The grille is silver on the lower trim models, but black on SE and chrome on the Limited trim.

The cabin of 2019 Toyota Highlander is also quite stylish and spacious. Toyota has included bins and cubicles to store your gadgets and beverages on road inside the cabin, as it is. The material quality is not exactly lavish but you cannot dismiss it as cheap either. Of course, top two trims get better fabric for seats and faux wood trim.

The cabin is large enough to accommodate 7 to 8 persons. However, the third row is not much suited for all persons and it is best left for kids. Default cargo capacity is just 14 cubic feet but it can be increased to a whopping 83 cubic feet by folding seats. The dashboard is especially suited for storing mobile devices. Toyota has made use of floor insulation and acoustic glass to ensure the cabin remains very quiet.

Safety Features

Like most other models from its stable, the 2019 Toyota Highlander comes laden with sophisticated safety features. Toyota is in fact on a mission to equip almost all its vehicles with Safety sense suite of technologies. The new Safety Sense-P package brings in features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams and lane departure warning. Of course, you get a lot of airbags.

The LE trim gets 18-inch alloy wheels, rearview camera, 6.1-inch infotainment setup, tinted windows etc. LE Plus gets 8.0-inch infotainment setup, navigation app, leatherette upholstery and 3 zones automatic climate control. Next up the ladder is the Highlander XLE which adds a moonroof, leather upholstery with heating, full navigation. Highlander SE gets 19-inch alloy wheels and sports suspension.

In 2019 Toyota Highlander Limited trim, you also get perforated leather seats, JBL audio system. In the Limited Platinum trim, you get surround view camera system, panoramic moonroof and heated steering wheel. Furthermore, the Entune infotainment system is now more user-friendly and it is on par with what rivals GM and Ford offer in their models.

Few Engine Variants in the new 2019 Toyota Highlander

The LE trim of 2019 Toyota Highlander gets equipped with a 2.7-liter inline-4 engine making 185 horsepower. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The 3.5-liter V-6 is optional on LE and standard on most other trims. It makes an output of 295 hp and gets clubbed with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Highlander Hybrid gets a V-6 unit with two electric motors. Its overall output is 306 hp. The Highlander Hybrid gets a CVT unit which offers superb acceleration.

However, the LE and XLE trims get 18-inch alloy wheels and they offer a more smooth ride. The Highlander SE gets laden with a sports suspension which results in firmer drive experience. This SUV is not aimed at off-road users. If you opt for AWD, the traction on snowy and wet roads is improved by leaps and bounds. The maximum towing capacity is 5000-pounds.

Summing it up
