The iconic sports car is finally coming back as 2019 Toyota Supra. Moreover, we are going to see its premiere very soon. According to latest reports, you will have to hold on for just a couple of weeks, since the new model is ready to be unveiled in Geneva. More precisely, its debut is set for the March 6th. This will be the fifth generation of the iconic street racer.
The original model dates from 1978, while the legendary Mark IV was in production until 2002. So, after more than 15 years of waiting, we are finally about to see its successor. It will come with a completely new design but will hope that the spirit of legendary predecessors is going to remain.
The new model will share many characteristics with the new BMW Z4, including powertrain. The 2019 Supra should hit the market soon after the premiere.
2019 Toyota Supra will share a lot with BMW Z4
These two upcoming models are products of technical cooperation between these two carmakers. So, expect plenty of identical parts. First of all, there is a new architecture, designed especially for these two cars. The mechanics should be completely the same. Our reliable source claims that the base chassis is Toyota’s part of the deal, while BMW will take care of suspension and engine. Most likely, the source of power for 2019 Toyota Supra will be from Bavaria.
These two models should feature similar dimensions too, but completely different styling. The new Z4 will continue as a roadster, while the new 2019 Toyota Supra will follow the path of predecessor and be a real GT sports coupe.
2019 Toyota Supra styling
Fortunately, we’ve managed to see the test model on the road. Although still under a heavy camouflage, we can clearly see its silhouette. The great thing about the 2019 Toyota Supra is that it will keep with those curvy lines from the legendary Mark IV model. Still, there are plenty of new details as well. Most of them are inspired by 2014 FT-1 Concept, including things like a double-bubble roof and ducktail back end. Still, we didn’t notice that huge rear spoiler, characteristic for the previous generation.
On the inside, all details are still completely unknown. We will have to wait for the premiere to see how 2019 Toyota Supra is going to look like from the inside. At the moment, we must rely on rumors and so-called insider information. According to these kinds of reports, the new model will closely resemble the legendary driver-oriented dashboard.
2019 Toyota Supra engine
As we mentioned, new 2019 Toyota Supra will use the engine from BMW. The company wants to keep the tradition and continue with the straight-six engine, so this seems logical. The new sports coupe will get BMW’s famous inline-six engine, boosted up with probably two turbochargers. The previous generation of Z4 features an engine with a max power of 335 horses. Naturally, we expect to see more for the next one.
On the other side, 2019 Toyota Supra should come with even bigger boost, but we are not going to speculate about exact numbers this time. Also, our reliable source suggests that the new generation will come exclusively with the BMW’s new automatic transmission. No manual transmission this time, it looks like.
