The new 2019 Toyota Verso is not going to appear in so many markets as its predecessors. This is the major change for the upcoming model. However, buyers who opt to buy this popular MPV still can count its space and reliability. The first appearance of the minivan happened in 1997 as Toyota Corolla Verso. But, as the independent model, it comes out since 2009.
Whatsoever, the Japanese carmaker will continue to invest in a new model for some while. However, the amount of money is cut. Toyota is shifting more cash to crossover and SUV class, which are the main reason of discontinuation of Versa in Europe and the USA. But, in some South American and Asian markets, it is still quite popular. That is why we will still see the 2019 Toyota Verso.
2019 Toyota Verso Engines Choice
The new 2019 Toyota Verso is probably going to cut a diesel engine. Well, it not a better choice over the petrol unit. In other words, you can drive more miles with a gasoline drivetrain not even to start a diesel engine. Also, add a note – the costs of maintaining petrol are lower.
The value of both units will drop by 50 percent in five to six years. So, with a diesel engine after five years you lose about 12,000, and with a petrol mill about $10,000. Besides money, you can get additional 11,000 miles. If you drive less per annum, the diesel choice is meaningless. But there is one big advantage – diesel unit offers a higher torque, easier city drive since it is more tolerant to the stop-and-go regime. Finally, the genius Toyota’s start/stop system is one of the best in the world.
The current generation of the MPV is using both petrol and diesel engines. Depending on the market, buyers can choose two different versions of each. Toyota installed a 1.6-liter petrol unit as the base option. It is capable to create 132 hp (98 kW). Another inline-four gasoline option is a 1.8-liter powertrain with nearly 150 hp (110 kW).
Diesel engines are totally dominating in the lineup of 2019 Toyota Verso. These are more powerful, more efficient, but still more expensive options. Well, the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel is not too powerful. It creates 125 hp (94 kW) but returns up to 60 mpg. A 2.2-liter engine is offering two configurations. The first one is good for 150 hp (112 kW), and the other one delivers 177 hp (132 kW). The torque of all diesel setups is more suitable for a city ride. The gearbox is precise. But, according to Toyota’s old recipe, it has slightly longer strokes. The mentioned start/stop system is extremely fast and efficient. We have no doubts to call it the best. Well, the competition is copying it.
Toyota Verso 2019 Updates
The 2019 Toyota Verso will be one of the lightest models in its category. It weighs under 3,500 pounds, and drivers can’t notice that when driving in urban areas. Well-adjusted drive system makes the ride special. The transmission ratio is well calculated and the clutch pedal is soft. Verso is still going to be one of the shortest minivans in the class, so parking is not going to be problematic. The camera is superb, and the display shows how much space driver still have.
As mentioned before, drivers will have help for parking. However, this is not the only sector where they will have aid. Safety measures are at the highest level. Comfort as well. Depending on a trim level and market, buyers can purchase the minivan with various equipment. The MPV remains a 5-seater. Lack of seating spots is made up with extra space for cargo. Access is easier and the total volume is going to be the same as for the 2018 year model.
The major downside is visibility. The large C pillar won’t help it. Add the big turning diameter for this class as another thing that won’t make you happy at all. The roof rises steeply. Taller people might have problems with that – roof will get into the field of vision. The Japanese company also must solve the problems with the adjustment of the steering wheel movements. Interior materials are not too modern. The competition will easily beat 2019 Toyota Verso in this segment.
2019 Toyota Verso Future
The 2019 Toyota Verso is not coming back to the most markets. Well, for now. The company could make it appealing again, but the huge overhaul must happen before they bring the MPV back. The hybrid engine might help. Definitely, the reconstruction of the interior is the key. Although it offers a lot of room for cargo, passenger lacks some space. This also harms the safety values. With more comfort inside, modern elements, and more efficient drivetrain, the future Toyota Verso could be competitive again. But, that won’t happen in 2019.
