0

For years, Mazda 3 has been considered as one of the best compact cars that you can find around. Beautiful styling, dynamic driving characteristics, and excellent SkyActive engines have been some of the strong points of this sedan/hatchback for years. Now it looks that Mazda is taking everything on a completely new level. The new generation of the famous model has been around for testings. So far, we can’t see the final layout in terms of styling or interior, but it is now certain that the new SkyActive X engine will be ready to hit the scene next year.

It will be the first compression ignition gasoline engine in serial production, which will provide superior efficiency. Also, expect to see those things that are usual for redesigns, including new styling, interior design, tech features and much more. The 2020 Mazda 3 should hit the market in the next year.

2020 Mazda 3 Gets a New Engine

The most important novelty for this redesign is a new engine. This will be the first model to get a new SkyActive X engine. There has been a lot of word about this engine in the last few years and it looks like it is finally ready for the big scene. It will be the first compression ignition gasoline engine in serial production, which has been a myth for decades. Benefits of the new technology are obvious. It takes the best from two worlds, diesel, and gasoline. So, while it runs on a refined hi-quality gasoline, it also works on a very high compression, which provides superior efficiency. The company claims new engine is about to have 20-30% more power compared to current SkyActive G engines, but 25% better fuel economy as well, practically on par with diesel engines.

In practice, this would mean that a new 2.0-liter unit will have more power compared to the current 2.5-liter engine, which delivers around 185 horses. Also, another amazing thing is that Mazda claims the new engine won’t bring many additional costs, so the price should be in a range with diesel versions.

Besides the new engine, we should see current units in the offer as well.

2020 Mazda 3 Redesign

The new engine might be the most attractive novelty of this redesign, but the company will offer much more. This redesign will also bring a completely new platform, which will bring benefits in many ways. First of all, we will see some weight reduction, which will provide additional fuel savings and better driving dynamics. In terms of size, the new model should keep similar proportions, though the better use of space should provide more room on the inside. Of course, expect to see a new styling, which will this already amazing-looking car make even prettier. We will see further development of the KODO design language, characterized by sleek profile and plenty of curvy, premium-like lines.

2020 Mazda 3 Interior

Another important aspect of this redesign is interior. Some neat-handed reporters managed to get exclusive photos of the new cabin. From what we can see on these photos, it looks like the new 2020 Mazda 3 will go completely digital. A new instrument cluster will be digitalized, though it will probably emulate classic analog gauges. Rest of the dashboard should also rely on digital controls primarily as well. However, we still expect to see a not so negligible number of buttons and knobs. Of course, we will see a completely new styling, as well as a bunch of new tech features. As we’ve already mentioned, the new model will also feature more legroom, especially for the rear passengers.
