After years of waiting, the iconic sports car is finally coming, most likely as 2020 Toyota Supra. Although many years have passed, the last version which was in production until 2002 is still fresh in our memories. Famous for its curvy lines, as well as a mighty V6 turbo engine, the last version of Supra already has a cult status and it is considered as one of the most iconic Japanese street races.
The new generation will try to justify the legendary nameplate. It will come in a similar design manner, but also with plenty of novelties. It’s no secret that the company is developing the new generation together with BMW. The product of this cooperation won’t be just new 2020 Supra, but the new generation of the BMW Z4 roadster. These two models will share a lot of things, including chassis, engines and much more.
2020 Toyota Supra redesign
It is hard to call it a redesign after 15 years of waiting. Still, a famous nameplate suggests that we are not going to see some huge step-outs when it comes to the base design philosophy. The new-generation 2020 Toyota Supra will continue with a familiar layout, featuring rear-wheel drive. Still, the new model will come with a chassis and complete platform that is developed together with the famous Bavarian carmaker. Expect to see numerous benefits from this cooperation.
The 2020 Toyota Supra will share a lot of things with the new-generation Z4. Although we are about to see pretty much identical mechanics, body style will be completely opposite. While the Z4 is known as a roadster, 2020 Toyota Supra will follow its roots and come in a hard-top coupe variant. Still, latest reports suggest new Supra will have less than 3300 pounds, which will be a significant improvement.
2020 Toyota Supra styling
If you are a core Supra fan, you know that a concept version under Gazoo badge had a premiere. From what we have seen, it is clear that the previous generation was used as inspiration. You can notice those curvy lines, this time designed in a more modern manner. The car’s trademark, a huge rear spoiler is also here. Still, there are numerous completely new details. Although there are some styling cues of the brand’s current design language, this concept looks pretty distinctive. Still, this is not unusual for the Japanese manufacturer. Even the current lineup of mainstream models in not synchronized completely. We hope that the production model will be as close as possible to the concept. On the other side, details about the interior design are yet to come.
2020 Toyota Supra engine
When it comes to the engine, we are about to see some big changes compared to the previous model. Don’t afraid, six cylinders will remain, but this time in a line. The new 2020 Toyota Supra will borrow the engine from the Bavarian carmaker. It is a 3.0-liter inline-six unit, which in the current version delivers around 335 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. Of course, some additional tunings for this occasion is quite possible. Expect a more powerful version of the engine for both new Supra and Z4. When it comes to the transmission, expect to see an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
2020 Toyota Supra release date
As we already mentioned, a concept version of this sports car had its premiere recently at the Geneva Motor Show. Serial production should start next year. Although we are still waiting for the official confirmation, various sources already suggest that the new model will come already in the first half of the next year, as 2020 Toyota Supra. When it comes to the price, it is still early for some predictions.
