2021 Mazda CX-9 Release date and Price

According to the latest reports, the Japanese manufacturer is already working on the next-gen 2021 Mazda CX-9, which is about to come in about two years. The current generation of the company’s flagship crossover is present since 2015. Despite relatively recent arrival, the company plans a six-year cycle for this and other models of the lineup, which should make this brand more competitive on the U.S. market, where sales are declining in past few years.

The new model is about to come with a lot of novelties. The new design will make the crossover even better. Expect things like a new platform, new palette of engines and much more, including a new styling as well.

2021 Mazda CX-9 Redesign

Though it still seems early to talk about some more specific details, there is no doubt about some of the changes on the new 2021 Mazda CX-9. The second generation of this mid-size crossover will get a new architecture. The company works on a new highly modular platform, and this will be one of the first models to get it. Of course, we expect to see plenty of new design solutions that will significantly improve overall driving characteristics.

This model has been pretty dynamic in this aspect, so there is no doubt that the company will continue improving it. Thanks to the massive use of lightweight materials, the new 2021 Mazda CX-9 will be significantly lighter. Some reports even suggest an all-aluminum body, which still doesn’t seem to like, considering that such a design would probably raise production costs, which will finally affect the model’s price.

2021 Mazda CX-9 Styling

In terms of exterior design, we don’t expect to see anything radical. This model is already considered as one of the prettiest crossovers in the class. So, the company should continue to evolve the current KODO design philosophy. Despite numerous novelties, the base shape should remain pretty much the same. Some reports suggest that the 2021 Mazda CX-9 could come bigger. But we don’t expect significant changes in terms of proportions.

2021 Mazda CX-9 Interior Design

On the inside, the new model should continue to be one of the class leaders in terms of materials quality. Moreover, we expect to see an addition of some even better materials. This will bring this brand even closer to the premium segment. Also, we are pretty sure that the company’s management is aware of the fact that the current generation isn’t the most practical model in the class. So, some design changes that will provide bigger cargo volume and more legroom for rear passengers are definitely more than welcome.

2021 Mazda CX-9 Engines

This is another aspect where we expect to see significant changes. We all know that the company is finalizing its brand-new, industry-first compression-ignition gasoline engine. The new unit should be ready by the 2021 Mazda CX-9’s launch. This unit will bring significant improvements in terms of overall efficiency. In practice, this would mean around 30% more power and 30% better fuel economy compared to current SkyActive G engines. So, a new SkyActive X engine should be on par with the current 2.5-liter unit, which is good for about 250 horsepower with premium fuel. On the other side, fuel economy should be on par with diesel engines. Still, this engine will most likely be offered as optional features. The current 2.5-liter engine will be reserved for base models, of course with some slight power boost.

2021 Mazda CX-9 Release Date and Price

Considering that the new-generation 2021 Mazda CX-9 is still two or three years away from its launch, it seems pointless to talk about some more precise launch date. Most likely, the new model will come in the second half of 2020. Still, there is a chance to see its presentation a little bit earlier, on some major car show.

When it comes to the price, we hope that the new model won’t be much more expensive compared to the current version, which starts at 32.000 dollars. Competition seems pretty familiar. There are models like Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, VW Atlas, Kia Sorento etc.
